While waiting on our consolation match to finish (which may have gone past midnight), Linda Rockwell gave us both the choice of playing the next round immediately or in the morning.
You certainly didn’t have to play until 2 AM."
Bill, you told only part of the story and not the entire story. The part of the story you did not tell is incredibly relevant.
They gave me a choice of playing my match with Linda Rockwell either Sunday morning at 1 AM or 9AM. By playing Linda until 2:15 AM, I did not have to play again until 10 AM instead of 9 AM.
If I had not played Linda beginning at 1 AM, I would have had to play her beginning at 9 AM.
"Irregardlessly" of which option I chose, I would have have had the same deficient amount of short rest.
Both Bill and Amy had left the playing room long before my match with Linda was completed at 2:15 AM. They were very sensitive to their own need for overnight rest, but not so sensitive to their players' needs. They required Linda and me to keep a killer schedule that they were not willing to keep for themselves. This is very telling. "You have to keep on playing, but I need to go to bed now. And be sure to be back here early in the morning or you will be forfeited." Not an exact quote, but the gist of what they required us to do.
It is intolerable and unacceptable that I was given the choice between playing at 1 AM or 9 AM. Either option gave me less than eight hours overnight break.
Bill and Amy screwed up their tournament in a major way. Linda and I were not the only ones who were adversely affected. The intermediate section of the draw was also greatly delayed. One intermediate woman ended up forfeiting her money round match because of the unreasonable schedule imposed on her by the TDs.
I have participated in nine tournaments thus far this year. One of them was run far more poorly than any of the other eight. Can anyone guess which was the worst run tournament of the nine? Hint: the one directed by the the TD with the most years experience of running tournaments.
Incredibly, Bill believes he is a great tournament director and he believes he does a great job with running his tournaments. There are many of us who strongly feel he is deluded on this issue.
I strongly recommend Bill's tournament for two classes of individuals: (1) those who enjoy playing very late Saturday night/Sunday morning and then again at 9 AM or 10 AM Sunday with an overnight break of less than eight hours and (2) those who enjoy playing as slowly as they like while the TDs have far more important things to do than keep a close watch on slow matches.
