Bill Riles - "...4/3*, 11/9. Does he try to cash at 55% from the bar? If he doesn't and he dances, I cash. If he doesn't and hits, then he cashes.
Am I 45% with any other play?
The larger question is do I take if he does try to cash..."
I really would like to know your answer to the larger question. Do you take if he cubes? Your play does possibly present you with a difficult take decision. Also, you may be influence to be more aggressive with the take decision after your aggressive checker play.
I understand your sentiment to play aggressively and "...make him work for it...". It certainly may be the best move. Another approach is play safely, maybe he won't try to cash, and maybe I will roll a good 6 and enjoy my pip lead. Instead of making him work for it, I decide to concede the cash if it comes, and try to roll well to win if it the cube is not turned. My pip lead is not ignored.
My approach eliminates the difficult decision of whether to take. I give my opponent the challenging decision in this matter and keep it simple for me. Although this is not my usual approach to backgammon, there are times where I will make it simple for me and trickier for my opponent.
