1. Is there a way to copy and paste a position ID from the forum to XG, as there is with gnubg?

Yes. Copy the XG or GNU Position ID to your clipboard, open XG, and hit CTRL + V. That will automatically open the Setup Position mode in XG.

2. Is XG a much easier grader than gnubg? I ran two matches from online play yesterday through both bots (gnubg 2-ply and XG thorough) and XG gave me much better ratings than did gnu.

Run your match through XG World Class. I stopped comparing between GNU ER vs. XG PR.

3. Is XG thorough the right analysis setting to use? The setting higher than that looked like it would take the better part of an hour to run a match.

Use XG World Class. It won't take as long as it estimates.
