Although Eppstein undoubtedly knows full well, chess and go are not themselves combinatorial games... but at least the theory of CGT can be used to say something very meaningful about them. Go in particular is close to being a combinatorial game -- in fact, CGT was discovered in a desire to understand something about go endgames.
