Keith Count

Yes, people use the Keith count; I use it. I think it works best when at least one player has a wacky distribution of checkers in the home board, and not too many checkers borne off yet. If it's a long race and there is no wastage (i.e., extra checkers on low home-board points), then just a straight pip count will work pretty well. If too many checkers are already off then counting rolls and misses is more reliable, and if you can apply the Trice count then the Trice count is usually more reliable. However, with a complicated distribution I think the Keith count is a good bet.
If you are ambitious enough to master Seret's pipple count then that's probably even more accurate, but I've never been able to make myself learn it.
