Pre-clearing the 6 gets a checker hit about 0.3% next time vs. around 1.7% for 9/4 8/5. One big difference between these plays is how many checkers Black figures to have on the roof when he hits you. It's none if you pre-clear vs. mostly two after 9/4 8/5 so you'll be more likely to be able to get your hit checker in and around the board in the latter than the former. Plus you'll have 2 or 4 checkers borne off so you can't be g'd and will have better winning chances if you're closed out. 9/4 8/5 looks right to me.
