Then I played the doubling side 10 times.

With this result:

5 times: Closed out 3 checkers and won

3 times: Closed out 2 checkers and won

1 time: Hit the 3rd blot, but couldn't prevent Opponent from maintaining a 23-point anchor as I began my bearoff, but still won

1 time: Closed out 3 checkers and lost

How could that happen? Was I incredibly skillful? Incredibly lucky? Playing a blunderful opponent? I don't think so.

If white rolls a 1 it is probably wrong to hit. I think I would try to close out two, then cube. Or try to pick up the 3rd checker after making the 2 and 3 points.

I'd hit with any ace on the first roll, double-hitting with 1-6 1-5 and 1-4, and triple-hitting with 1-1.

If you don't cube until you've closed out two checkers, you've hugely missed your market at this 3-away all score (what's opponent's match equity down 3-away 2-away?)

It's possible, probably often, to pick up the third blot after making both the 2 and 3 points. But I'd much rather hit it much sooner than that. When you put 3 checkers on the roof, it's really hard for Opponent to anchor. First he has to make an anchor. Then he has to not be forced to break the anchor. And he has to continue keeping the anchor. Even when he puts 3 checkers on his anchor, you have all your checkers in play and thus a lot of time to let him run one checker, and run a second, and then pick up all three blots and close him out for good.
