I think you're right to be afraid that the opponent will anchor with only two checkers back, but I think one factor you're missing from your analysis is that once the opponent has three checkers back, we might win the race anyway without even having to trap him off the anchor.

Based on some of Michael Depreli's investigations into how GNU and XG play trap positions, my guess is that the bots will play this position reasonably well on high settings, so a rollout would be interesting to me too.
