Impact of Jacoby rule on checker play

This is only anecdotal, but the group that I play with has recently started experimenting with match play, after years of playing exclusively money games with Jacoby. I've definitely noticed people leaving the cube in the center when they would certainly double in a money game. And I'm not talking about positions which are correct ND or TG ATS. While I can't be certain what they're thinking (for even their own reports of what they're thinking might not be accurate), I'm pretty sure it's something along these lines: "If things keep going well then I may win a gammon and win two points anyway, and if they don't go well then I'll be glad I didn't double." Sound reasoning, perhaps, at 2-away/many-away or 3-away/many-away or other subtle scores, but I'm talking about normal doubles at 11-away/11-away. I watch roll after roll of missed D/P, missed D/P, when the very same game would have terminated quickly in one of our money games.
