How is this fair? Bonehead doubles his own team when his game is worth close enough to -1 equity to have the captain drop and he gets a wash out of it?

In my opinion, the only thing that is fair is to handle it just like you would if a player left the room mid game without asking anyone to handle his cube, and the box (and other players) forgot he was still in the game until they look at the scoresheet and rotation at the end.
