Clock rules at scheduled ABT tournaments

Thank you, Jason. I'll consider your suggestion. Not that I haven't considered it before ;- I follow the terminology in the DBgF rules set:
Option (mutual) Option Præference i.e. Preference (of one player) Obligation Required (of both players) Straf Penalty (clock imposed by Tournament Director) (although Google translation prefers "punishment" to "penalty")
Maybe "penalty" would be less offensive to you in the context of the rule set: "In backgammon matches, a clock can come into use by (1) option, (2) preference (3) obligation, (4)
punishmentpenalty." Each word is then defined. "Penalty" is defined as "the players are required to finish a match in progress using a clock, if the TD so decides with respect to § 2.3." Section 2.3 concerns "slow play" and says that the "straf" for slow play is either (1) finish the match using a clock or (2) warning, and penalty points for further slow play. The terminology makes sense to me in context, in both languages. (4) comes into play as a "penalty" for slow play. In any case I can't think of a better word, either.
