In Response To: 10 Arguments Against Clocks (Tom Keith)

1. Clocks add to the expense of equipment players have to buy.

Chiva: Bullshit ! 35$ including batteries. I wonder whatīs next to bitch about. Why do I have to get out of bed and walk down to the playing room to play someone?

2. Clocks are another thing to carry around, that might get lost, etc.

Chiva: Boards can get lost, dice can get lost, keys can get lost, wallets can get lost. Solution: Just donīt lose it.

3. Clocks are hard to set, hard to change the battery.

Chiva: Changing batteries is easy, setting them is learned within 2 minutes.

4. Clocks require additional rules that make the game more complicated.

Chiva: Clocks avoid many other rulings, keep a match fluid and tournament schedule pretty much undelayed. Itīs an additional skill to backgammon called time management.

5. Clocks make you play worse.

Chiva: Clock time settings have been tested over years now and they allow to finish matches without running out of time on a very high level.

6. Clocks make it harder to believe you play fast.

Chiva: Set up a second clock to see how fast you really played :)

7. Clocks hurt dice manufacturers because you use only one set of dice.

Chiva: Who cares? Let them produce dice for other industries.

8. Clocks make some players play slower!

Chiva: Fine. Let them take their time and lose the match.

9. Clocks adversely affect some well-known backgammon tactics, such as playing slowly to annoy your opponent.

Chiva: Clocks do offer some other psychological aspects to influence your opponent.

10. Clocks take away the fun of hard luck stories like, "How I didn't finish my Saturday match until 8:30 a.m. Sunday," or whatever.

Chiva: Clocks allow to get rid of your frustration by punching them so hard that they get destroyed !
