To me it's a choice between 6/5 6/3 and 6/2*. Other hitting plays seem to just slow White down and speed our own demise for no good reason. I doubt that 6/2* loses many backgammons, and gammon losses are virtually meaningless, so 6/2* looks pretty promising.
6/5 6/3 kills 5's and gives White a chance to rush forwards and perhaps give us a shot while we still have a semblance of a board. More likely, of course, we'll crunch, but we're likely to crunch no matter what we play so I don't think we lose much in those variations.
I'm not sure at all but I would try 6/2*. If nothing else, it makes the position harder for the opponent to play if we get hit.
