Impact of Jacoby rule on checker play

In Response To: Impact of Jacoby rule on checker play (Daniel Murphy)

Though only 2% of all games finished with a G/BG with the cube on 1, I suspect that there was a significantly larger percentage of games with at least one player TG (with the cube on 1) at some stage of the game, even though the cube eventually got turned later.

But anyway, for once my subject line isn't lying, and I'm talking about checker play and not cube play. The question is whether it's helpful to the target audience of the Backgammon Learning Center to say something like, "If the cube is not turned and you're playing with Jacoby, then your checker play should be bolder because gammons don't count." My contention is that this is a very misleading piece of advice. It makes it sound like the Jacoby rule justifies the same degree of bold checker play that we see in proper DMP checker play. (I know that's not exactly what's being asserted, but again, to the intended audience, it's going to sound like that.) In my opinion, a much better piece of advice to the intermediate player is to ignore the Jacoby rule entirely when moving the checkers. (This is basically what I understood MCG to be saying.)
