In Response To: Give it a rest, Paul (Bill Riles)

I did not like that Mr. Riles excluded me from his open tournament two years in a row. I was not convinced that registering about 4 weeks in advance and then six weeks in advance were insufficient. I suspected that my spot was given to better known tourney players. I was highly offended that Mr. Riles implied that I was a weak person for suggesting a weak play. Mr. Weaver's open comments were appropriate discussions to improve the game.

That being said, perhaps it is best to see if Mr. Weaver's criticism will lead to a better tournament. It may be fair to Mr. Riles to suspend negative comments until after his next tourney. I believe that his next tournament will be an improvement. Overall, his tournaments have been good and will probably get better. Time management will improve. He will not exclude me if I register in time. He will not personally insult another BGOnline member because of a member's play choice cited in a post.

As a starting backgammon player, Chicago Point was one of my best teachers of backgammon. Mr. Riles has been very good for backgammon. We all make mistakes. We all learn from mistakes. If you put yourself in the spotlight to better a cause, your mistakes are more evident than those who do less. Mr. Riles has put himself in the spotlight to help backgammon. I wish him the best.

Stanley
