The commenters mentioned some good points, but missed some big ones here.

First position, two words I didn't hear: market losers. There weren't any.

Second position, two words I didn't hear: match equity. And -- five, eight or 10 minutes -- how long it takes to calculate "exactly" is irrelevant. Over the board inexact estimates will do, since all you need know is whether to stay or go. It shouldn't take much time (even if one had not seen or thought of this position lately) to realize that about 18%*25% is a whole lot less than about 32%*17%, and that's only the backgammon vs. gammon-save part, never mind that you win some too.
