Checker play AtS matters

I can't supply a lot of direct evidence to what I'm going to say here. But, my limited investigation of these differences at GS scores indicates that slotting and hitting plays offer more play choices which can be altered depending on the score. For example, after a slot is hit, you may have the chance to choose between a return hit or an advanced anchor. If you are playing for money, you may return hit. If you are playing at GS, you may take the advanced anchor. Knowing the score allows the player to favorably alter play in line with gammon values. Running and splitting plays are less likely to present these options. They are more likely to perform in line with a static analysis of the money results because the same plays are being made in both cases. This is what seems to drive the sometimes surprising performance of hitting and slotting plays at GS.
There's another factor which is usually small, but is sometimes big enough to make a difference. That is backgammons. Hitting and slotting tend to lose more backgammons. At GS, backgammons are no worse than gammons which gives a little boost to the hitting and slotting plays.
