I see. I probably shouldn't have lumped together the play(s) that leaves a blot on the 9 point with the board-breaking play 3/2. Anyway, at some point we want to fill in the gap on the 2 point. Slotting it now is the most direct way to do so. It's better to leave a blot there now when Black has to break his back anchor to hit, and when Black's board is still relatively weak (compared to later on, when it could be fatal to get hit, assuming Black manages to pop his spares loose and build his board). Things could still go wrong if Black hits and traps our back checkers, remaking his second anchor or otherwise forcing us to shred our front position, but Black has to be pretty lucky for all this to work out right. This play is looking better as I envisage how it might play out, though I still think I would just clear from the rear.
