My Take On The Japan Open Tournament

It was my pleasure to participate in the big annual tournament in Japan only one time, in 2006. There are some unique and enjoyable aspects of this tournament, at which clocks at mandatory. I told Kenji that I hope to go back new year.
(1) All players from outside Japan are royally welcomed and treated very well.
(2) Not sure if this is still true at the new location, but when I participated, play ended promptly every night at 9 PM. A group of a few dozen went out to eat some of the best food in the world. It was a great experience.
(3) The problems on the Othello Quiz are posted on the wall from the beginning of the tournament. Although anyone would have a couple of days to consult a bot, the Japanese are so honest that they can safely assume that no one will cheat. Sadly, this would not work in the USA.
(4) If your opponent catches you making an illegal play, he can require you to run thirty seconds off your clock. Should we implement this rule in the USA?
(5) Unlike tournaments in the USA, there is absolutely no whining of any kind heard out of anyone. They would not be able to conceive of anyone throwing dice, cups or chairs. The Japanese players are all exceptionally polite and honest.
