In Response To: My Take On The Japan Open Tournament (Paul Weaver)

(3) The problems on the Othello Quiz are posted on the wall from the beginning of the tournament. Although anyone would have a couple of days to consult a bot, the Japanese are so honest that they can safely assume that no one will cheat. Sadly, this would not work in the USA

Is there any sort of prize for winning the quiz?

(4) If your opponent catches you making an illegal play, he can require you to run thirty seconds off your clock. Should we implement this rule in the USA?

No, we should turn to legal moves.

(5) Unlike tournaments in the USA, there is absolutely no whining of any kind heard out of anyone. They would not be able to conceive of anyone throwing dice, cups or chairs. The Japanese players are all exceptionally polite and honest.

A conclusion drawn from one tournament? lol And where is Shino from again? If I had attended only one tournament in the US it's possible I could make such a statement. I don't doubt in general the Japanese are more 'well behaved' than US but I have to say, sometimes a good chair toss is not only justified, but harmless and added value to bg.
