(1) Stick, "Is there any sort of prize for winning the quiz?"
Not sure about now in 2010, but when I was there in 2006, I got a bottle of Japanese sake for first place (actually, I tied for first). Michy told me he would have had the same score I had if only he had turned in his answer sheet. I believed him and I did not have room in my suitcase, so I gave him my sake.
I wrote, "Unlike tournaments in the USA, there is absolutely no whining of any kind heard out of anyone. They would not be able to conceive of anyone throwing dice, cups or chairs. The Japanese players are all exceptionally polite and honest."
(2) Stick asks, "A conclusion drawn from one tournament? lol And where is Shino from again? If I had attended only one tournament in the US it's possible I could make such a statement. I don't doubt in general the Japanese are more 'well behaved' than US but I have to say, sometimes a good chair toss is not only justified, but harmless and added value to bg."
My conclusion is drawn not just from one tournament, but from nineteen months of living in Japan and playing many matches against many Japanese players.
Shino was born in Japan, but neither he nor the Japanese consider Shino to still be Japanese. He has been living outside Japan for decades. I believe he now lives in Sweden or UK.
