In this situation I can tell you why 19/16 is way off base but as far as guidelines go it is as with any position in backgammon, take a look at everything that's going on, close your eyes, and move!

In this position you're going to get your shot assuming I don't luckbox my way into some doubles. You already have an assured double shot but if you play 19/16 you're giving me a lot of good numbers. I would love nothing more than to have some hitting numbers here. I still have a 4 pt. board and you leaving me a juicy blot would be mighty nice of ya ;) I hit, you either fan or just come in, my position has improved exponentially.

As a side not you have to build a board sometime if you hope to contain a hit, and this roll allows you to get started on that.
