In Response To: Theoretical question (Carlo Melzi)

According to XG+, your position is a huge pass. It is true, however, that with some tweaking I managed to reach a position that satisfies my requisites.

Sorry, I was dead tired and didn't check the actual position I posted; I just knew the money-take-but–p–3-pass window had to exist and wanted to give you an idea of how to construct such a position. Sounds like you tweaked it successfully.

Let me modify my question: do you think it is possible to reach a position that satisfies my requisites with standard play?

It depends on what you mean by "standard play." The player needing 3 points should cube immediately. (There may be a way that optional doubles could occur continuously from the outset of the game, but I doubt that's what you meant.) In other words, having the cube in the center already demonstrates a non-standard approach to the position; indeed the two positions you posted would be "cooked" if standard cube play was a prerequisite to reach them.

I'll therefore assume that in your modified set of conditions you forgive the -3 player and both money players for not doubling, and that your criteria is satisfied as long as no checker errors are made.

Below is an error-free game that fulfills your requirements and then some. It can be played both as money and as Blue being –p–3. White (the –3 player who opens with 64P) only gets the upper hand once and not by much — one could imagine him playing the entire game trying to trap, until suddenly, out of the blue...

Blue takes for money, passes at –p–384

I consulted a bot, including rollout verification:

For money, Blue should take: EMG = 0.931
At –p–3, Blue should pass: EMG = 1.101
