Computer Game Play at Tourneys

Yes, I am speaking about the Open, Advanced, Novice, and other brackets. I have never attended a Poker tournament. I know that many of you have. My uninformed impression is that Poker tournaments have many of the features that I believe backgammon tournaments should have.

In general, one can enter any Poker event provided that the entry fee is paid. Very few Poker events are restricted. A strong player is restricted or should feel restricted to not play in a Novice backgammon event.

Most importantly, my uninformed impression is that if you lose in one Poker event, another event will be available to you shortly. Besides the backgammon blitz format, there seems to be limited backgammon if you lose in the division of your choice. Personally, my interest in previous tourneys has been the Open division. Doubles backgammon and side chouettes do not seem to be real backgammon from my perspective. Please understand that if you started playing backgammon strictly online or against a bot, backgammon does not feel like a team sport at all. Yet, I do understand that pre-bot and pre-online players find doubles and chouettes as amusing. They are fine group social events. But, backgammon has never been a group social event for me. I抣l go watch the Bears play with friends if I desire a social group event. Backgammon is a personal challenge to become good at a difficult game and take money from others. It is far from being a social group event. Thus, if I lose quickly in the Open event, there would be very little interesting backgammon for me at ABT tournaments.

Again as I first stated, these are personal opinions of a non-tournament player. What may appeal to me may or may not be good for ABT backgammon. I encourage members to confirm or correct my admittedly uninformed impressions of poker tourneys; or to disagree with me on my assertion that there is limited backgammon if you lose in your division at ABT tourneys.
