Yes, you are right. But the subject was an opening with 61. In the heydays there were sharks, who hated the unflexible position after making the barpoint. They played the overpure, arrogant 13/7, 6/5 against weaker players. It isn't enough for me with weaker brain, just to know all bot numbers and remember them. I must have good reasons, and pattern that i can recognize based upon this. It is just like black jack. The math invited methods of counting, to go beyond break even. But you have to execute proper base technique, before you can deviate from this with counting. The casinos earned even more, because the average bj player messed it up, using the new math. If you can remember all the numbers, fine. But you are also playing well (i looked after your last match against falafel, chapeau), because you are an expert. For the knowledge of an expert, the Dreyfus model of skill acquisition mentioned: "Authoritative knowledge of discipline and deep tacit understanding across area of practice. Excellence achieved with relative ease. Able to take responsibility for going beyond existing standards and creating own interpretations. Holistic grasp of complex situations, moves between intuitive and analytical approaches with ease. Sees overall 'picture' and alternative approaches; vision of what may be possible." This model was first developed for high reliability environments like flying an airplane or working in an ICU. But Backgammon is the very same, constantly decision making under uncertainty. And in the opening, we have even more uncertainty, we have to develop a vision, what will and can come based upon our decisions. I played the pure style with an ace in the opening, slotting. Then the bots came and throwed it under the bus, introducing the split. But i played the split not very well, because i came with it in unfamiliar positions. I had to work for the ideas behind it and how to play the new positions. Perhaps this may be far beyond for you and the other autorithies here, but for me it was just yesterday.
