I only looked so long at the other plays because John posted it. I doubt I would have spent as much time OtB as I did because it was a thread. While establishing the defensive bar point anchor would be nice, esp. since we have 3 men pinned behind a solid 5 prime and will desperately need sixes, the ace ruins this as an option. Leaving 12 shots by playing 8/7 or 20 shots by playing 6/5 or even 11 shots by simply making the bar is too much, too much, too much when your opponent has such a board.

If the option was between hitting 18/11* and making the 18pt and not having an ace to play I think I'd choose the 18pt.
