I doubt that is true. But I would think some coaches would do better, even though it may go against the optimal strategy at times, if they were forced to never punt: on 4th and 1; on 4th and 3 or less when trailing; on 4th and 5 when trailing in the third quarter; on 4th and 7 or less when trailing in the fourth quarter; on 4th and 10 or less when trailing by more than 3 points and less than 8 points and 6 minutes or less to go in the game; on 4th and anything trailing by 8 or more with 10 minutes or less.
