Why so much effort on the openings?

I reply, isn't XG almost entirely CPU intensive? I will likely get a supercomp with two xeons, but once the 8 core HT chips come out, then I'll have 16 cores and 32 threads.

But my question to you and others is, since XG performance is almost entirely CPU intensive, how would raid and ssd help speed things up? As you see, I am not very familiar with raid.
