With the anchor and opponent having a two point board getting hit is not terrible here.

He has two blots and likely at least one will be remaining if he hits. If a blot hitting contest is started you now have more home points.

Alternatives have their own flaws. Midpoint is useful for connectivity here and voluntarily taking away direct shot at the blot lets him play next roll more smoothly.
