I would note that the decision which was discussed ad infinitum was a hypothetical with 3 minutes left, not the actual situation with 6 minutes left. I assume that the more time remaining in the game, the more correct it is to kick the PAT (for example, you would always kick in the first quarter).
The added vig from going for 2 seems to be the potential for winning even after you fail, because you need 2 scores. This is a very rare event, ergo the vig rates to be small. But as in backgammon, a play can be extremely clear even when the equity difference is small.
