I don't want to take any steam away from MCG's success, but I do want to take at least some of the credit for Matt's showing in Paris. Before the tournament started, and right before the quarter final match, I offered him some tips and advice.

Before the tournament I shared with him some match equity shortcuts and insights that he had seen before but had lost; and before the quarters I gave him a tip I had learned in the chouette just the day before: "Do not take a cube if you think you might get backgammoned." (I made that mistake on Wednesday and was backgammoned by Bill B on an 8 cube.)
