This statement is okay in general but not worth much. For example, early in a match guess what people don't have to think about? Gammon values. Take points. Match equities. Etc...they play like it's money by far and large whereas later on, either in the middle or more near the end, they may need to make some serious time consuming calculations.

The way they managed their time early on was horrendous. You should never allow yourself to get into this sort of time pressure if you don't at least play decent under whatever you consider to be time pressure.

Stepan ended with 2 seconds on his clock. MCG could have done a lot more if he thought his best overall equity was in getting his opponent to time out which it may have been against this particular opponent. As I did with Fernando Braconi and Falafel training for the Nordic speed matches, I made them both eat the clock and lose matches on time so they'd realize which was more important.
