Poker tournaments make no secret of their huge prizes. I guess knowing what huge prizes are at stake is part of the attraction of poker tournaments.

Why should we make a secret of our prizes?

Would it be illegal in any way for an American to go to France and win some money in a backgammon tournament?

Or maybe we want to make it easier for the winners to hide from the IRS that they won some money?
