QUOTE; Chiva, my compliments for the care with which you arranged this. Leo, what is gambling can be open to many legal and non-legal definitions, and I can imagine that discussing money amounts does not help in cases of impending legislation.
OK. I enter my chess tournament in my town. Entry is €40 and goes into the prize pool. We had 100 players speedchess. Prize fund is €4000. Winner gets €1000 Now...did chess players GAMBLED by paying these fees or not?
Obviously answer is NOT in PRIZES or PRIZE MONEY...but question is : Is backgammon a game of chance..game use dice so win or loss depend mainly on numbers you roll. If this is case, USBGF promoting Backgammon to kids is BAD...if game win depends mostly on skills how you arrange your checkers..then backgammon IS NOT a game of chance.
Currently, debate is open to everyone..in the mean time..all major tourneys seem to be in casino, which argues for BG to be clasical game of chance as poker.
