"Anchor and guard" is an attempt, but hitting the guard to wash it out of the hair is for me a strategy when i am coming home against such a formation, but not with three men on the other side of the board. That makes the hit so unusual. For me. Just my opinion.

It doesn't matter so much how many checkers you have on the other side of the board. What matters is how flexible your position is. The fact that anything but 20/13* is awkward should alert you to your shortage of comfortable plays. Getting rid of the guard gives you a lot more flexibility. You'd rather "pay now" with the hit than "pay later" when the hit might be more costly.

This should be enough to narrow down the choice to 20/13* and 6/1* 10/8. This choice isn't easy. For me what swings it is that 20/13* requires breaking the golden anchor, and hitting the blot doesn't seem to accomplish much. But, it's a delicate balance. I'm sure that tinkering with the position a little could swing the decision the other way.
