If you want to see the rule at work in all its glory take your position and compare the correct cube action for -3 -5, -3 -6, and -3 -7. The position sneaks out of the rule a bit because the rule assumes some sort of normal/decent gammon chances for the trailer whereas here the number will be too low. I'm positive at -3 -5 I would cube and expect it's even a drop.
