The way I understand the ace-point hit here is:
20/13* leaves a lot of returns, and a lot of ground to cross without the benefit of an anchor. Playing 10/8 6/1*, if not hit back, forces opp forward and thus allows building a board, which is useful in case of a future blot-hitting contest. Meanwhile, we can also hop our back checker and then uses doubles to move the anchor forward.
I missed this play, but can see now how it fits a plan. And I still like your piece about what Chase mentioned in earlier posts; I'll remember that one.
