Soccer vs. Baseball

I was a foreign exchange student in France for a year. Soccer is very popular worldwide, but has poor popularity in U. S. I have always surmised that soccer and baseball are very similar. One has to have an interest in the game from early childhood to appreciate all of the nuances of the game (ex. Jeter - Gold glove) to enjoy the sport.
If one is not immersed in baseball or soccer as a child, then both sports are simply slow moving, boring ordeals to watch. Since we already have one slow, boring sport; soccer will never be very popular in the U. S. Also, for the same reason, baseball will not be popular worldwide.
Now, basketball is another story whose popularity can soar worldwide. American football does not seem to be gathering worldwide popularity even though it is fast moving and exciting. My French college friends did enjoy watching American football. However, the uniforms are quite expensive and perhaps the greatest detriment to worldwide acceptance.
