The key to this position is that Blue is well behind in the race, but has a big priming advantage. White needs 4s to escape, or if he is on the bar, 5s. These numbers (4s if not on the bar, 5s if on the bar) are very good for White anyway. Blue's plan should be to take away the escape option by filling in the 5 point. If you play 11/5, you work effectively towards that plan, at little cost - you only make White's 4s a bit better than they were before.
There is also the cube to consider: If you play 11/5 and are missed, your advantage is so strong that you can cash.
