Soccer vs. Baseball

I think American Football has poor chances to gain popularity worldwide because rugby is already in its place. Similar sport, and no need for helmets and protection.
I haven't seen much American football, but it seems that most of the time nothing happens (commercials, timeouts, replays, restarts) - what is playing time, and how long does it take to finish?
Basketball is a great sport.
Baseball is OK (I like it even though I don't play), but it seems that from this category of hit a ball and run games, twenty-overs cricket has the best long-term perspectives as it is fast paced and tense when a team is chasing a target - can be (and often is) decided on the last ball out of a total of 240.
