Who is the better BG player: the one who has the lowest error rate, or the one who somehow maximizes the difference between his errror rate and that of his opponent?

That is for me a difficult job. If you really want to work with Jacobs/Trice, you have to know the rating differences. And suppose, they are not exact. Two players with real 2000 rating at fibs, but one at time 1900, because he played not enough matches, so it would be a bias to take the MET with 100 points rating difference. And to add faulty cubes to weak checker play would in my eyes even more mess up. Jakobs developed the Cooke/Robertie line in "Can a Fish Taste Twice as Good? Doubling in an Unequal Backgammon Match", but before learning such an esoteric approach, i think, it is better, to work on your basics. Jacobs/Trice is a loaded weapon. You can easily hurt yourself.
