Who is the better BG player: the one who has the lowest error rate, or the one who somehow maximizes the difference between his errror rate and that of his opponent?

I have about 5,000 analyzed matches (Mostly Gnubg) ranging from 3-21pts over the past few years. Players I am likely to play in online events I do review more than others (And usually just their more recent matches). I rarely play, so I have more time to observe others. I find it more fascinating watching humans play than spending spare time playing against any bot (XG, or GnuBG).
