American football analogy?

I don't think these situations are analogous. Your goal in bg match play is not to get the most points; it is to get the required number of points. As the weaker player, that aim is best served by avoiding the long run and that can be done by creating situations where a large number of points are put at stake at once. An analogy would be that your goal is to walk away with a $100 profit at a casino where each bet has a 10% vig. Are you more likely to accomplish that goal by placing exactly 3 $60 bets or 180 $1 bets? Your equity is the same in both cases, but your chance of walking away with $100 is greater in the first case.
