Error rate differences

I'm still not sure. The basic difficulty I see is that error rate measures your probability of losing versus a perfect player. It's not clear to me that it tells us anything about the probability of losing versus an imperfect player. If I'm playing you and I make a move that would be bad versus a perfect player, and you make a move that would be even worse against a perfect player, then does that mean that you're more likely to lose against me than I am to lose against you? Not at all clear.
Of course, in the real world, a low error rate is a good predictor that the person has studied the game a lot and understands it well, so one would expect such a player to do well. But mathematically, it's not clear to me.
