It's quite believable to me that the late doubler's ER might be worse than the deep taker's ER, when in fact the late doubler is making no mistakes at all against this opponent.

I'm confused by your use of "ER". I think we agree that there are about a million reasons why EMG error rate may be misleading. That's why I tried to shift the discussion to either cumulative MWC or a very restricted scenario where EMG rate does work. If in the quoted passage you were talking about EMG error rate, I will say again that it may be possible, though I'm not sure that it is.

But regarding long term average cumulative MWC error per match, I can assure you that the late doubler's, if indeed he always manages to double his opponent in (I assume that's what you meant by "no mistakes against this opponent"), will be smaller.
