This is a nice problem! I would not have found the top play OTB. Note that if we strengthen the defender's position slightly (I avoid using the terms blond and brown because it seems that you have them reversed in your analysis from your diagram), by say lifting the home-board blot to the 6pt, then it seems that the obvious safe play is better. 13/9 8/6 is certainly purer, but it takes excellent judgment to figure out just how weak the defender's position needs to be to allow such a bold move.
