"Polish Prime?"

In Response To: Kamikaze plays... (higonefive)

I am sure that higonefive did not mean to insult anyone, but he may have inadvertently done so. There are people from Poland who read this Web site.

It was my privilege to spend a week in Poland two months ago in September. Krakow and Wroclaw are two of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe. Before World War II, the architecture in Warsaw was even more spectacular than Prague's.

The Polish people I met were friendly and intelligent. They all went out of their way to be kind to me. My week in Poland was a wonderful experience.

I played backgammon in three cities in Poland: Katowice, Warsaw and Poznan. I found competent players in all three cities. At least two Polish players (young men 26 and 27 who rate to improve quickly if they continue to play) are stronger than one of the members of the Giant-32 list. Anna Mielech of Warsaw has cashed in seven of her first eight tournaments. She is 27, rated near 1800 on GridGammon, and rapidly improving. Incidentally, she speaks English as well as I do, but she has a much more attractive accent than mine.

I regrettably admit that in the past I have used the term "Polish prime," but never again. Out of consideration to the Polish members of our international backgammon community, let's hope this phrase is never used on this site again.
