Banana split

Interesting use of "banana split." I'd usually reserve the term for a play that breaks a point in a strong board in order to hit, because you need to hit so badly, and where getting hit back is bad. But what do I know?

Although I believe that, as you said, the main reason for the terminology is that there is a pun on the name of the popular dessert and the colloquial meaning of "bananas = crazy," I also like the visual image of the checker tracing out a banana-shaped arc as it moves, especially if the checker hops over other home-board points in the process.
