I have learned through consistent punishment by bot and by results how serious a defect it is for white to have that homeboard gap. The gap is not as bad on the 5 point as it would be on the 4 point, but it is still bad. If the gap were on the 4 point, blue could pretty much take regardless of the racing deficit and it would likely be a big error to double. Here, with the gap on the 5 point and an awkward position by blue, the double is clear. The strength of the position is a function of the likelihood that the gap will be filled without leaving a shot. There are a few immediate rolls that permit that, but if one of those do not occur, it is unlikely the gap will ever be filled. In spite of blue's awkwardness, between the shot equity and the race equity and the relatively small gammon risk the take seems clear.
