Wrong concept

Blue will be 15 pips behind after making this play, so he has to maintain contact to have a chance of winning. Running the backman out to the midpoint is not usually the way to maintain contact, but the holding game with both players holding points six away from each other may be enough contact. Blue has very good timing for White to break first so leaving the runner may not be best.
The runner is fairly safe for now - White has two blots in the homeboard and Blue's board is strong so leaving the runner where it is is sound, the issue is that Blue might not get a better opportunity to get it out of there.
So I'll move the runner up and transition to a holding game - I figure it gives Blue 40 to 45% GWC and takes gammons off the table. The next question is whether to keep moving or play the 5 somewhere else. Moving it to the midpoint gives us 8 transitions before we have to break the bar point while White will be on roll with only 5 transitions to go. Sounds like a simple recipe for a holding game. 21/13.
